Its shape is fixed rather than flexible, narrowing to a thin slot that funnels all of the machine's suction into a single line, well suited to seat rails, window tracks and the gap along a cushion seam.
A tool shaped like this loses performance by clogging long before it ever cracks. Fine debris jams at the narrowest point of the taper, and the vacuum keeps running at full volume while nothing comes through the tip, so check for a hidden blockage before suspecting the motor. Also look the collar over for hairline splits, since a gap there lets air in around the seal and weakens suction at the tip even with the passage clear.
