This is a 15-inch wooden brushroll fitted with 5BR ends, sold as part 10.173. Powr-Flite's own listing for this part confirms it fits the PF82DC and PF82HF commercial uprights as well as the Eureka 4440, 4441 and 4460.
As the agitator, the brushroll's job is to flick carpet pile upright so the airflow moving behind it can lift soil free. Once the bristles have worn down nearly level with the core, the machine keeps running at the same volume but no longer pulls ground-in grit out of the fibers, something a quick pass over a test strip of carpet makes obvious right away. A solid wood core stays straight under belt tension over time, in situations where a thin hollow-core roller can start to bow, which is part of why a wooden roller is still specified on machines that get used every day.
