Canplas 3-Way Mounting Plat...

Product details

This three-way mounting plate anchors a central vacuum inlet valve to the wall framing during new construction, going in while the studs sit open and long before drywall enters the picture. Whether the finished inlet ends up flat and square for the life of the house comes down to how well this plate goes in now.

Rough-in is the easiest point in any project to get inlet placement right, precisely because the wall is not closed up yet to hide a mistake. Fastening the plate square and plumb gives the valve a rigid connection, and every loose or misaligned inlet, however small the gap, becomes a leak point that shows up as weaker suction across the system once the wall is finished and the leak itself is out of sight.

This is part 791041W. Follow your inlet valve manufacturer's rough-in height and spacing guidelines, and take the time to true the plate up against the stud before driving fasteners, since correcting it after drywall is a much bigger job.

Because this plate goes in before the trunk-line tubing is finalized, it is worth dry-fitting the pipe run up to the plate location before permanently fastening either one. That lets you confirm the tubing lines up cleanly with the plate's opening instead of discovering a misalignment after the drywall has already gone up around it. Leave a little slack in the tubing run near the plate rather than cementing it drum-tight, since framing can shift slightly as a house settles and a rigid connection right at the plate is more likely to crack than one with a small amount of give built in.

  • Part: 791041W
  • Use: new construction, installed at rough-in before drywall
  • Function: anchors the inlet valve flush and square to the framing
  • Note: confirm rough-in height and spacing with your inlet valve's installation guidelines
