Part 58-1000-09 is Oreck's adapter tube, the joint linking the hose to its wands, built for the Buster B canister. Every attachment change and every turn the hose makes around furniture puts a twisting load through this one piece, since it is the point where the flexible hose ends and the rigid wand begins.
This joint fails quietly. The plastic can crack at a molded seam, or the fit can loosen just enough that air starts entering right at the joint instead of passing through the tool. The canister still sounds like it is running at full power, but pickup at the nozzle drops noticeably, and a wand or tool may work its way loose mid-pass. Holding the old tube up to a light usually shows the crack even before the vacuum starts underperforming.
A new adapter tube restores a tight seal between hose and wand. Compare the fitting ends against the part coming off your machine before ordering, since a fitting that looks close is not necessarily the same size at both ends, and a close match is not the same as a correct one. Slide the hose end on fully and give it a gentle twist to seat it before reattaching a wand, since a fitting that is only partway on will leak just as much as the cracked one being replaced, even though the plastic itself is sound.
