Product details

Part R14182 is the two speed motor armature built for the Rainbow E2, shipped with the clamped upper bearing arrangement specific to that version of the machine.

A motor rarely goes from fine to dead without warning. Suction tapers off gradually first, the carbon brushes throw more visible spark against the commutator than they used to, a warm electrical odor shows up after a stretch of running, or in the later stage the motor simply refuses to turn over at all. Continuing to run the machine through any of these stages tends to drag the field windings and the brushes down along with the armature, turning what could have been a single part swap into a rebuild of the entire motor.

An armature rebuild is not something to tackle casually on a kitchen table. The motor housing has to be fully opened to reach it, and once the new assembly is in, the rotor has to spin true and balanced or the machine will develop a rough run and a howl of its own that was never there before, sometimes worse than the original fault.

If you are not equipped for motor rebuild work on the bench, this is a job worth handing to a qualified service technician rather than attempting without the right tools for balancing and reassembly.

  • Part: R14182, armature sub-assembly with clamped upper bearing
  • Fits: Rexair Rainbow E2, two-speed canister
  • Watch for: tapering suction, sparking brushes, a warm electrical odor, or a motor that will not turn over
  • Note: requires full motor disassembly and balanced reassembly, best handled by a qualified technician
