Regular bag changes, contact with baseboards and long exposure to daylight leave the original scuffed, brittle at the latch, or bleached. None of that stops the canister working. A cover that will not latch does matter, since the chamber has to pull down onto its seal, and tape never holds it there properly. A new panel settles the appearance and the seal together.
