Bag housings stay shut because of one small moulded catch. On the ESSENTIAL G4 and G5 that catch is 51103GS, drawn at position 25 and finished in gray black. It engages as the housing closes and holds it firmly against the machine body.
Once the catch cracks or its hook wears round, the housing no longer pulls up tight. The first symptom is usually weak pickup rather than an obvious mechanical fault, because the compartment has stopped closing squarely and air is entering somewhere other than through the bag.
