Bissell Dirty Water Tank Float, Grapevine Purple, TurboClean 3746 3738 3748 3745

This GrapeVine Purple float, part 164-2207, is the shutoff component inside the dirty water tank of a Bissell TurboClean upright. As the recovery tank fills, the float rises and seals the suction port so water cannot reach the motor.

Bissell publishes this float for the 3738, 3745, 3746, 3748 and 3748N. Floats tend to fail quietly rather than break outright. One that has taken on water, or that no longer moves freely, simply stops arriving at the top of the tank on time, and the first sign is either a tank filled past its usual line or suction that quits early with plenty of room still left.

When suction has gone intermittent, the float is worth ruling in or out before the tank seal. Set the empty tank down, tip it slowly, and watch whether the float travels freely from one end of its travel to the other. One that hangs part way, or that feels heavy for its size, has usually taken on water and will not seal on time again.
