This is the gasket that seals the nozzle to the base on the Bissell Big Green extractors, part 2037456, covering the 10N2, 3288, 40M1, 86T3 and BG10.
Everything a wet extractor recovers has to be pulled through this joint. When the gasket flattens or splits, the machine starts drawing air from around the seal instead of from the carpet, and the loss shows up exactly where it hurts: water left down in the pile, longer drying times, and a machine that needs three passes to do what it used to do in one.
It is a few minutes of work and it is worth doing before you start looking at motors and hoses. Air leaks at the nozzle are quiet, invisible, and account for more lost recovery than any single failed component.
