The separator is the cyclonic component inside the bagless dirt tank that spins incoming air to throw dust and debris into the bin while keeping the airflow path and filter clear.
As the separator collects packed dust or develops cracks, you may see weaker pickup, dirt blowing back into the lid, or the filter clogging faster than usual. Swapping in a new separator brings the cyclonic action back and helps the vacuum hold suction the way it did when new.
