The bag is the entire filtration stage on a backpack unit, with no cyclone or dirt cup behind it catching what the bag misses, so how the bag is treated has an outsized effect on how the machine performs. Because the operator wears the machine, a bag loading up is easy to miss until an edge pass leaves grit behind or the straps start feeling warmer than usual against the back.
Change the bag at around two thirds to three quarters full rather than running it to capacity, and store spares somewhere dry, since paper that has taken on damp will not seat cleanly at the collar and tends to tear rather than hold shape once it starts filling.
