On a white SEBO AUTOMATIC X5, the catch under the head is 5714WE. Press it and the brush cover swings open; drop the cover back and this is what has to bite. SEBO numbers the release item 159 on the AUTOMATIC X5 sheet, where the dark blue version appears as 5714DB, and the cover it works against is item 161, ordered in white as 5249WE.

Being operated by hand at every cleanout, it wears out well ahead of anything else down there. The hook end chips, or the arm gradually stops springing back, and after that the cover is only resting rather than held. Symptoms are undramatic and easy to attribute elsewhere: a light chatter across hard floors, a cover that sits a shade proud on one side, and grit finding its way under the edge instead of into the suction path, so carpet performance drops without a blockage to explain it. The replacement goes in with the machine laid on its back, and since the head is open at that point, the bristle rows, the sealing strip and the belt are all worth judging before it is closed up again.
