Part 620771 is the brush roll for the Aerus/Lux Power Nozzle 5 and Power Nozzle 6 heads and for the Aerus Discovery upright.
Set into the base of the power nozzle or upright's cleaning path, the roll's bristle rows rotate against carpet pile to comb loose dirt, grit, and pet hair that suction on its own leaves packed into the fibers, then the airflow carries it into the bag.

Two separate things end a roll's working life on a power nozzle, and it is worth knowing which one you have. Bristles wear down until they no longer reach into the pile, which shows up as poorer pickup with everything else behaving normally. Separately, the ends collect enough wound hair and grit to drag. With the belt off, a sound roll turns under a light push and coasts to a stop; one that stops dead where you leave it is adding load the belt has to fight, which is worth establishing before you replace the belt and find nothing has changed.
