Small retaining clips ping across a workshop floor and are never seen again, which on its own justifies buying 0161ER in tens rather than singly. It is the 4 DIN 6799 C clip that retains the handle catch pin on the AUTOMATIC X uprights and across the 370 series, listed at position 53 on the sheet titled AUTOMATIC X7 X8. Singles of the same clip are stocked as 0161.
Each clip snaps sideways into the machined groove on the catch pin and stops it sliding out while the handle is being locked upright and released again. DIN 6799 is the standard for exactly that kind of open, horseshoe-shaped retaining washer — it goes on across the shaft instead of over the end of it, which is the only way to fit one inside a handle catch without dismantling half the joint. The size figure refers to the groove diameter it grips.
Fatigue eventually spreads the ring until it no longer holds, and from that point the pin migrates and the catch becomes unreliable: the handle will not lock upright, will not hold its reclined angle, or has gone loose at the pivot. With ten in the drawer the repair takes minutes and there is stock left over for the next machine through the door. Anyone in there anyway should look at the pin the clip retains, since a clip that has been slack for a while lets the pin wear its own flat.
