Product details
This two-brush carbon set, part 833450-56, is the replacement brush kit Ametek lists for its higher-voltage Lamb 7.2 inch bypass tangential motors: 117472-12, 117501-12, 117502-12 and 117502-13. Three of those are rated 240 volt and the 117501-12 is rated 230 volt, so read the plate on your own motor rather than assuming every export unit carries the same rating.
Voltage is the detail that matters when ordering. The 120 volt motors built on the same 7.2-Premier frame are listed with kit 833450-57 instead, so a motor that looks identical from the outside can still call for the other set. Match on the motor number, not on appearance.
Brush wear shows up gradually rather than all at once. Look for sparking that flashes through the motor's vent slots, a scratchy sound layered under the normal motor whine, suction that dips and recovers instead of holding steady, and a burnt electrical smell after the unit has run for a while. Any of those point at the brushes first.
Replace both brushes together, and give the commutator a look while the housing is open, since a brush run down to the spring can leave a groove that shortens the life of the next set you fit.
