A quick check is to tip the machine back and spin the front wheel by hand; it should turn freely without wobble or scraping. Axles in this position see constant load from the machine's own weight plus whatever downward pressure comes through the handle, and over years of rolling across thresholds and floor transitions, the shaft can bend, wear at the bearing surface, or corrode enough to bind in its housing. Once that happens the wheel stops turning freely and instead drags or wobbles, which adds noticeable resistance to every pass and, on hardwood or tile, can leave a visible scuff trail.
