Where the power cord enters a backpack vacuum, a strain relief grips the jacket so that every tug on the cord is taken by the housing instead of by the wires inside. Part B3526800 is that fitting for the Sanitaire SC-412 backpack, and it is also listed for the Carpet Pro SCBP1.
Strain reliefs crack from constant flexing. Once one splits or works loose, the cord starts moving at the entry point and the conductors inside begin to break strand by strand. What the operator sees is a machine that cuts out when the cord is moved, or a warm spot near the entry, and both are worth stopping for.
It is an inexpensive part guarding an expensive fault. Unplug the machine before opening it up, and replace the strain relief at the first sign of splitting.
