Replacement carry handle insert for MV series Riccar and Simplicity upright vacuums, part B480-1314B. The insert fits into the handle recess on the body and takes the load whenever the machine is picked up by hand, carried upstairs or lifted in and out of a vehicle.
Inserts crack rather than wear out, almost always at a mounting point, and a cracked one flexes noticeably under weight before it finally lets go. Swapping it is a short repair that keeps an otherwise sound vacuum in service.
