Product details

Before assuming a Bissell 2144's battery has given out, work through the adapter first, since it fails at a much higher rate than the pack it feeds. Part 1610982 is that adapter, and swapping it costs a fraction of what a new battery runs.

Dock the machine with a fresh adapter plugged in and give the indicator a minute to respond. Nothing lighting up, a light that comes and goes on its own, or a unit that appears to charge and then quits within a couple of minutes of use, are all classic charger symptoms rather than signs of a spent pack, and telling the two apart from the outside alone is close to impossible without simply trying a known-good adapter.

  • Part: 1610982
  • Function: wall charger for the dock or charging port
  • Fits: Bissell 2716, 2151C, 21513, 2151A, 1985T, 1985, 2524, 19844, 19841, 1984, 2144

Inspect the lead at the strain relief for a soft spot or a kink, since repeated coiling concentrates stress right at that joint over time. Order this adapter by its part number rather than by the plug shape alone, because chargers across a cordless lineup can share a plug shape without sharing an output, and running the wrong one is a quiet way to wear out a pack that had plenty of life left, without any obvious warning until it stops holding a charge for good. Unplug the charger when the machine is not on the dock rather than leaving it live around the clock, since constant low-level current through an idle adapter adds to its own wear over time.
