The pigtail connection carries a short cord of its own, so the hose plugs into an outlet nearby to run the brush roll motor instead of drawing power through the wall valve. That outlet-fed setup suits a central vacuum system wired without low-voltage contacts at the inlet, a situation that shows up often in older installations and retrofit jobs. Set the hose into a standard inlet, plug the pigtail cord into a receptacle within reach, and the brush roll spins up independently of the vacuum's internal relay.
