Part 762016 steps down pipe sized 1-3/4 inches on the outside to match today's standard 2-inch central vacuum tubing. Techs pull this fitting whenever an older or nonstandard section has to tie into current pipe, on a repair, a room addition, or an extension of an existing network reaching somewhere the original run never went.
Suction depends on every joint in the system sealing fully, and a leaking joint hidden inside a finished wall is a serious headache to trace later, usually discovered only once performance has already dropped across the whole house rather than at one obvious inlet. A properly sized reducer at the diameter change gives a clean, purpose-built connection instead of an improvised joint cobbled from parts that were never meant to mate in the first place.
This is a standard central vacuum transition size rather than a fitting built to one power unit's parts list, so it works on Hayden installations and on any other system carrying 1-3/4 inch pipe on one side of the changeover.
