This power pedal and spring, part 1KT1030000, replaces the foot-operated on/off switch on the Dirt Devil SD30030. Together the spring and pedal open and close the power contact every time you press down with your foot.
Repeated presses eventually crack the pedal or tire out the spring, and the switch starts to feel mushy, stick partway down, or stop making contact at all. A machine that is hard to turn on, or that will not stay running, is often a pedal and spring problem rather than a motor or cord issue.
A weak spring is easy to overlook because the pedal can still look fine and still move. The tell is usually feel rather than appearance, a pedal that no longer snaps back firmly on its own once you lift your foot, or one that needs to be pressed at a slightly different angle to make contact.
