Deep cleaning a carpet without renting an extractor is the entire idea behind the DUO method, and part 9401AM is the machine at the middle of it. Finished in light gray and pushed by hand over an area already dusted with DUO-P compound, its brushes drive the granules down through the pile and bring them back toward the surface, where an ordinary vacuum lifts them out along with whatever they have collected.
What you avoid is water. There is no tank to fill, no soaked backing, no fans running overnight and no hose trailed to a sink, so the room stays in use and the carpet is simply vacuumed once the compound has finished working. That suits offices, rental turnovers, stairs and landings, and the wool and natural-fiber carpets that react badly to being wetted. It also suits anyone who cleans to a schedule rather than in an emergency, because a floor treated this way is walkable straight afterwards.
The brush machine is the durable half of the system and the compound is the consumable half, so plan on stocking both. DUO-P is listed as the 0478AM clean box, as the 0472AM refill box of five bags, and as 0472A1 for sites that get through it. Edges, stair treads and isolated marks are worked by hand with the 6392 large hand brush or the smaller 3055HG spot brush. Inside the machine the brushes are replaceable rather than a reason to retire it: 3005ER is the standard DUO brush roller, 3005W the soft-bristle version, and CD1402AM the DUO daisy brush.
