Along the bottom edge of the bag compartment sits a bumper base, and on the SEBO 300 MECHANICAL and 350 MECHANICAL that piece is part 50118HG in light gray. It runs the width of the housing at the height where the machine meets everything it is pushed into.
This is the first thing on the vacuum to meet kick boards, stair risers, table legs and desk pedestals, so it wears through, splits at the corners, or disappears altogether on a machine that has done a few years of contract work. Once it has gone, every future knock lands on the bag compartment itself, and that is a far more expensive part to put right. The bumper base is designed to be the thing that gives way, which makes replacing it a cheap piece of preventive work rather than a repair. Fitting one also removes the split, snagging edge that catches on baseboards and marks paintwork.
