Product details

Rexair catalogs part R14409 as the dust brush for the Rainbow D-4, and the same brush is cross-referenced under R8054 and R-2519 in listings covering the earlier D series machines.

Its bristles are natural horse hair, which is what keeps it usable on the surfaces a Rainbow owner is most likely to point it at: bookshelves, blinds, lamp shades, picture frames and electronics, none of which take kindly to a stiff synthetic bristle. Natural fiber flexes away from a glossy finish rather than dragging across it.

It is the smallest tool in the D-4 accessory set and usually the one used most, since dusting comes up far more often around a house than deep carpet work does. That also means it ages faster than its size suggests, and it ages by thinning and losing spring rather than by any visible damage.

Before deciding a dusting pass went badly, look at the bristle ring rather than at the machine. A brush that looks intact at arm's length can have lost enough spring up close to leave a film behind, and a coating of built-up dust and static-held debris makes healthy bristles behave like tired ones, so wiping the ring clean is worth trying before replacing it. Warm water and a little soap are enough, and the brush should dry bristles-down before it goes back in the case.
