The hood is the moulded top shell of a Sanitaire SC5845 commercial upright, and part 6187828 replaces it. It covers the motor and wiring and carries the mounting points that hold everything beneath it in alignment.
In commercial service the hood takes the impacts: door frames, desk legs, the back of a lift. Once it cracks it stops being cosmetic. The shell flexes, mounting bosses break away, and the parts underneath sit slightly out of position, which is how a machine that only looks battered starts sounding wrong as well. A broken shell also lets dust straight onto the motor.
It fits the SC5815E, SC5845B and SC5845D in both Sanitaire and Eureka badging. Move any hardware across from the old hood, then secure the new one at the original mounting points and check the shell sits flat.
