The lower handle assembly, part 272612, for Eureka and Sanitaire 887-series uprights: the SC877D and SC877E, the SC887D and SC887E, the SC888G, and the C2132A and C2133A.

The lower handle is the structural link between the upper handle and the body of the machine, which makes it the piece that absorbs every push, pull and twist. It fails at the joints, where a hairline crack turns into visible flex and then into a handle that moves independently of the vacuum. Steering goes vague, edge work becomes a wrestle, and the operator puts in far more effort than the machine actually needs.

Replacing the assembly restores a rigid connection from grip to nozzle. While the machine is apart, check the fasteners at both ends: a loose bolt at the lower joint gives much the same wobble and is often what cracked the handle to begin with.
