This sensor governs automatic head-height on the Eureka Sanitaire SP5035 series, covering the Electrolux-Eureka EL5035A, EL5035AZ, EL5035B, and EL5035BZ commercial uprights. It reads how deep the current surface sits and lets the machine set cleaning-head height on its own, whether that surface is thick carpet, thin low-pile, or a bare floor, without a manual dial.
When it fails or reads incorrectly, head height stops tracking the floor the way it should. A head set too high skims over carpet without enough brush contact to agitate the pile, while one set too low drags and makes the machine harder to push, forcing the brush roll to fight friction it was never designed for on a level surface. Either symptom points to this sensor before you assume the belt or brush motor is at fault.
Because it is a small electronic component rather than a mechanical wear part, testing it usually means confirming the head no longer adjusts automatically as you move between carpet and bare floor, rather than looking for visible damage.
