The red dust cover door from the Bernina 6300, Evolution part 01-7817-31. It closes over the dust compartment, holds it sealed while the machine runs, and swings open to empty it.
Doors break at the hinge or the latch, usually while emptying, and a door that no longer sits flush is more than a cosmetic problem. The seam becomes an air leak, so suction at the floor head softens, and you get a fine puff of dust escaping along the edge of the door every time the machine is switched on.
A new door closes flush again. Look at the hinge pins and the latch catch on the body as you fit it, because if the old door broke thanks to a misaligned catch, the new one will go the same way.
