The 6179ER turbo brush has no way of seating on the 38mm handle of a D4, E3 or K3 as it comes. Part 1777ST is the black steel extender that solves it, supplying both the extra length and the fitting the brush needs to be run from those machines.

The connection has to be a firm one. A turbo brush carries no motor and takes all of its drive from the column of air passing through it, so any leak at the joint slows the roller down or stops it turning altogether. That is the usual explanation when an air-driven brush spins on the bench and then goes quiet the moment it is put to work on a cushion. With the extender fitted the tool spins properly, which is what makes stairs, upholstery and car interiors worth attacking with a D4, E3, K3 or C3.1. A turbo brush is the tool of choice for pet hair on fabric, where suction alone slides over the surface and the spinning roller is what teases the hair out of the weave.
