Product details

Bissell's curved pleated exhaust filter, part 1604130, is the post-motor stage on a family of bagless uprights that includes the 1307, 1309, 1790, 1792 and 1793. The pleats are what let a filter this size hold useful media area in a shallow housing, and it is washable rather than a throwaway.

Exhaust filters fail quietly. There is no bag to check and no clog to spot, so the clue is usually a musty smell coming off the machine while it runs, sometimes with a motor that sounds like it is working harder than an empty dirt tank would explain. Neither symptom means anything is broken. It generally means the filter has been in service longer than it should have been.

  • Part: 1604130, curved pleated post-motor exhaust filter, washable
  • Fits: Bissell 1307, 1309, 1790, 1792 and 1793 uprights
  • Pairs with: the pre-motor filter, part 1604127
  • Replace when: the exhaust smells musty or the pleats stay grey after rinsing

Rinse it and let it dry completely before it goes back in, then look at the pleats once dry. Media that stays grey after a wash, or that has gone stiff, is finished no matter how it reads from a distance. Change the pre-motor filter in the same session where you can, because the two sit in the same airflow path and a clean exhaust filter behind a loaded pre-motor filter will not bring suction all the way back on its own.
