Product details
This mylar non-stretch belt is built for the Hoover FH51000 steam carpet cleaner, part 440005536, and the same belt is also listed for the FH51001, FH51010 and FH54010. Where a stretch belt gives a little and takes up slack as it works, a mylar belt is built to hold its length for the whole of its service life rather than loosening off gradually.
A belt that will not stretch fails differently than one that slips. Instead of fading in performance, it lets go all at once: it shreds, snaps clean through, or jumps off the drive pulley. Once that happens the machine keeps spraying and recovering water while the brush underneath stays motionless, so wet carpet paired with silence under the base plate is the clear signal the belt has already given out rather than merely worn thin.
Pull the base plate to inspect it. Carpet fiber wound around the pulley or packed at either roller end is common after regular use, and clearing that debris before fitting the replacement matters, since a roller that drags even slightly will glaze a fresh mylar belt in short order. Seat the new belt into its groove, then rotate it a full turn by hand and confirm there is no resistance at either end before the plate goes back.
