Product details
The motor exhaust boot from Hoover's 2000 series, part 012492JM. It carries the motor's exhaust air out and keeps that section of the path sealed. It is listed for the Hoover 404 and for the S1029, S1055, S1075 and S1079.
Like most flexible ducting on machines of this age, the boot hardens before it splits. Once it has, exhaust air escapes at the motor outlet instead of being routed through the machine, so airflow drops and the air leaving the motor is no longer passing through the filtration downstream of it. That is why a machine with a split boot can smell dusty while it runs.
A new boot restores the sealed path. Check the exhaust filter and the seals around it while the old boot is out.
