Telescopic wand locking ring for the Hoover CH34006 and CH93406 backpack vacuums, part 440012193. It is the collar at the telescoping joint that clamps the inner tube at whatever length you set.
When the ring wears or splits, the wand stops holding. It creeps shorter while you work, or drops entirely the moment you push up into a ceiling corner, which is exactly when the extra reach mattered. A joint that no longer clamps also lets the inner tube rattle and score against the outer one, so the problem tends to compound.
A new ring restores a firm clamp. Wipe the wand tube down before fitting it, because dust and polish residue on the tube will defeat even a new ring.
