The armature is the spinning core of a Kirby's suction motor, and part 114725 is the replacement with the rear bearing already fitted. It covers the long-running Kirby platform from the Generation 3 through to the Avalir, taking in the G4, G5, G6, Ultimate G, Diamond Edition and Sentria.
A failing armature announces itself before it dies. Suction falls away, the carbon brushes start throwing sparks you can see through the vents, the motor smells hot, and the machine may cut out under load. Left alone it will take the field windings and the brushes with it.
This is a serious repair: the motor has to come apart, the commutator and brushes want inspecting at the same time, and everything has to go back together true. If you have not rebuilt a motor before, hand it to a vacuum technician.
