The belt lifter on the Kirby 516 and Dual Sanitronic 80 has a small clear window in it so you can see the drive belt without pulling the machine apart. Part 145265 is that lens, in clear plastic.
Half a century of heat and light leaves these lenses yellowed, crazed or cracked right through, and a lens gone opaque defeats the point of the window entirely. Broken ones tend to fall out of the holder and disappear into the bag.
Fitting a fresh one is a tool-free press into the lifter holder. It changes nothing about how the machine cleans, but on a restored 516 or D80 it is the difference between a correct machine and one that looks its age. Check the belt for cracking while the lens is out, since you now have a clear view of it.
