On the Kirby Tradition and Tradition 3CB, this hook is the piece of the belt lifter that actually grabs the drive belt when you work the lever. It is Kirby part 144279.

The symptoms of a failed hook are easy to read. The lever swings through its travel and the belt stays exactly where it was, or the belt lifts partway and drops off before it reaches the roller. Sometimes the hook is simply gone, having broken off inside the housing where you will find it during the strip-down.

Fit is limited to the Tradition family. The Classic and Heritage machines use different lifter hardware, so identify your machine from the badge before ordering. With the new hook in, work the lever a few times by hand before running the machine to confirm the belt seats cleanly on the roller.
