Kirby's genuine black nozzle bumper for the Avalir, Avalir 2 and Avalir Platinum, part 140414. It wraps the leading edge of the cleaning head, where the machine makes contact with everything it is pushed into.
Bumpers are sacrificial by design. They absorb the knock so the nozzle housing and your furniture do not, and the price of that job is that the material eventually hardens, cracks at the corners and lets go. A machine running without one leaves scuffs along baseboards and dents in table legs, and the exposed nozzle edge chips.
It slips onto the nozzle in place of the old one and needs no tools. Change it as soon as it starts to split rather than waiting for it to fall off in a doorway, and check your model plate reads Avalir before ordering, since bumpers differ between Kirby generations.
