Kirby part 141381A is the rivet fastening the bottom plate latch hardware to the plate on Heritage-style bottom plates, and it is the correct rivet for the Avalir, Avalir 2, Avalir Platinum and Sentria II.
Rivets shear. When this one goes, the latch stops pivoting on a fixed axis and starts to wobble, so the bottom plate no longer pulls up tight against the nozzle. You notice a plate that sags at one corner, pops open mid-pass, or lets grit spill back onto the carpet behind the machine. Brush height goes out at the same time, because the plate is what sets it.
It is a quick job with the plate off. While you have it apart, look at the latch itself and the plate lip for wear, since a rivet rarely shears without something else having been loose first.
