A switch lever should snap between positions and stay where it lands. When it goes soft, hangs halfway or has to be nudged back by hand, the flat return spring beneath it has lost its temper or cracked. Part 1739 is SEBO's replacement for that spring.
The spring is what generates the detent feel: the lever loads it as it moves, and the spring pushes back to hold the lever hard against its stop. A tired one lets the lever drift under vibration, so the machine appears to change setting on its own, or it leaves the lever resting between detents where the contact it operates only engages intermittently. Because the symptom is electrical in character, the spring is easy to overlook — plenty of switch bodies get replaced when the flat spring behind the lever was the whole story.
