Product details

Part 116119-00 is an Ametek Lamb bypass motor, 7.2 inches across the fan housing, built with three fan stages and wound for 120 volts. Cooling for the motor is drawn from outside the vacuum airstream, a design used on central vacuum power units where the motor needs to stay cool without being exposed to the dirt the system is collecting.

Ametek builds this one on its older-style 7.2-inch platform with a tangential discharge, classes it as a high performance motor, lists its input power at 1425 watts, gives its replacement brush kit as 833415-54, and rates the 7.2-inch bypass tangential family at sealed vacuums up to 135 inches of water lift and flow rates up to 125 CFM.

Three fan stages give this motor more sustained static pressure than a two-fan unit of the same frame, which suits systems running long duct runs or several inlets. Because the motor is isolated from the airstream, its wear pattern shows up as a change in sound and performance rather than contamination: a bearing note that has gone from a hum to a grind or whine, suction that has dropped off system-wide, running that cuts out under load, or a burning smell after use.

Before assuming the motor has failed, check the simpler causes. A clogged hose, an overfull canister, or a filter due for cleaning will choke a healthy motor and produce the same symptoms. If suction stays weak with everything else clear, the motor itself is the part to replace. This motor carries mains voltage, so isolate power at the unit before opening the housing, or leave the job to a technician.
