Framers and central vacuum installers place this plate during new construction or a gut renovation, at the same stage electrical boxes go in. Getting it plumb and at the right height now is what makes the finished inlet valve sit flush and level later; a plate installed even slightly out of square telegraphs through the wall and shows up as a crooked valve cover once the room is finished.
This is a generic fitting sized to standard 2x4 wall framing and 2-inch outside-diameter central vacuum PVC, so it pairs with the pipe and inlet valve hardware already specified for the job rather than one specific power unit brand. Confirm your stud spacing and pipe diameter match before ordering, and route the pipe stub through the plate before nailing or screwing it to the studs, since it is far easier to feed pipe through an open plate than to work it in afterward.
