Exhaust Muffler - 12 Inch -...

Product details

The loudest part of a running central vacuum system is often not the motor at all, it is the rush of exhaust air pushed out through the discharge port on the power unit. Part FT2020L is a 12-inch muffler that slides over a two-inch exhaust opening and knocks down that rush of sound, which counts for a lot when the unit sits in a garage, a basement, or a utility closet sharing a wall with living space.

Because the muffler is a simple slip-on fitting rather than a component tied to one manufacturer's parts list, it works on any power unit built around that same two-inch discharge size regardless of brand. That makes swapping one in, or adding one where none existed, a straightforward job on most installations.

Check the exhaust size on your own unit before ordering. A two-inch opening is common on central vacuum power units, but it is not guaranteed on every model. And if the noise has been climbing gradually rather than the unit always having run loud, look at the exhaust path itself for a blockage too. A muffler quiets a unit that is otherwise healthy; it will not fix one that is already struggling to move air.

  • Part: FT2020L
  • Length: 12 inches
  • Fits: any central vacuum power unit with a two-inch exhaust port
  • Function: reduces exhaust noise at the power unit

Where headroom below the unit runs short, turn the discharge upward with a sweep elbow first and let the muffler carry the sound up and away instead of forcing it to sit flat along the wall. Securing the tube to a joist or stud rather than leaving it to hang unsupported from the port also keeps it from buzzing once exhaust air starts moving through it.
