Part 8698 is a needle bearing for the Turbo Cat HP210, supporting one of the rotating shafts inside the brush head. Turbo Cat nozzles are air-driven turbine tools rather than motor-driven power nozzles, so there is no electric drive behind the roll at all.
A turbine nozzle spins its brush roll on airflow alone, so a bearing under that load has to turn smoothly with very little friction to keep the roll spinning at speed. As a needle bearing wears, the roll starts to feel rough or notchy when turned by hand, and in use that shows up as a grinding or squealing noise from the head along with a roll that spins up more slowly than it used to.
Because turbine heads depend on smooth rotation for their cleaning action, a worn bearing is worth checking any time an HP210 sounds different than it used to, even before suction itself seems to change. A bearing that is beginning to fail also tends to run warm to the touch after use, which is a useful check if the noise alone is hard to place.
