Product details

This 12 inch lamb's wool buffing bonnet, part 437-054, is Oreck's own pad for the Orbiter floor machine, listed by Oreck as a replacement part for the Orbiter Multi-Purpose Floor Machine. It is the soft, natural fiber pad used for polishing and finish work rather than the stripping or scrubbing end of the Orbiter pad range.

Lamb's wool works by burnishing a floor's existing finish rather than cutting into it, which is why it is the pad reached for after a floor has already been cleaned and any wax or sealer has cured. Where the scrub pads and brushes in the same range are meant to remove buildup, this one is meant to bring up shine without adding abrasion, so using it too early on an uncured finish tends to leave a dull, streaky result instead of a shine.

Wool bonnets mat down and pick up grit with use, and a matted bonnet stops burnishing evenly and can start dragging grit across the finish instead. Shake or vacuum the bonnet out between uses, and check it for embedded debris before each pass rather than only when it visibly looks dirty, since fine grit hides easily in the fibers.

Replace the bonnet once the fibers stay flattened after cleaning, once the backing shows through in patches, or once it stops raising a shine the way it did when new. A worn bonnet run over a good finish will not damage the floor, it simply stops doing the job it is meant for.

  • Part: 437-054, 12 inch lamb's wool buffing bonnet
  • Fits: Oreck Orbiter Multi-Purpose Floor Machine
  • Function: burnishes a cured floor finish to a shine, no abrasive action
  • Replace when: fibers stay matted after cleaning or backing shows through
