Panasonic's 12-inch uprights drive the brush roll off the motor shaft with a belt, and part 17392 is the replacement.
Belt wear is gradual, which is what makes it easy to miss. The rubber stretches, the roller turns slower than it should, and carpet cleaning falls away long before anything sounds wrong; you find yourself going over the same patch three times. A broken belt is obvious by comparison. The brush roll sits still, the machine still has suction, and there is usually a smell of hot rubber from the slipping that came before it.
Fitting takes a few minutes with the bottom plate off: loop the new belt over the motor shaft, then onto the brush roll, and turn the roller by hand to check it tracks straight. Compare it against your old belt if you are unsure which Panasonic upright you have.
