Seat the bag squarely when fitting it. A bag hanging crooked in its chamber lets air find a way around the paper instead of through it, and the sign of that is loose dust turning up inside the machine rather than a plain drop in suction. A second look at the bag mouth before the lid goes down is worth the few seconds, since the fault is easy to create and easy to overlook afterwards.
Once a bag is genuinely full, the opposite problem shows up: airflow chokes down well before the bag looks packed from the outside, so suction on this machine tends to fade in stages rather than cut out all at once. A canister that suddenly seems to be working harder on the same floor, with nothing else changed, is usually just due for a fresh bag rather than anything mechanical.
Check the bag itself before assuming a bigger problem. If it feels tight and drum-like rather than soft, or the machine strains on bare floor with the hose attachment removed, that points at the bag rather than the motor or the filter.
