Hayden Pipe Adapter - 2 Inc...

Product details

This Hayden fitting adapts a 2-inch OD run of central vacuum tubing down to 1-13/16 inch OD pipe, the piece to reach for wherever those two tubing sizes need to meet in a built-in vacuum system. Mixed pipe diameters show up often in homes where a system has been extended or serviced across several owners, and this adapter is what lets the two tubing generations join into one continuous run.

A central vacuum network is only as strong as its weakest joint. Every fitting in the run either holds an airtight seal or bleeds air into the wall cavity, and lost air at one junction quietly reduces suction at every inlet downstream. An adapter sized correctly to both pipe diameters keeps that seal intact instead of forcing an oversized or undersized joint together with tape or a mismatched coupling.

Dry-fit the adapter against both pipe ends before committing to cement, since the two diameters need to seat fully for the joint to hold. For a permanent connection, solvent-weld it to the PVC on both sides so the joint holds its seal for as long as the tubing run stays in service. Because pipe diameters vary between central vacuum manufacturers, confirm both ends against your existing tubing before ordering rather than assuming from the outside diameter alone.

Use a PVC primer ahead of the cement on both halves of the joint if your local code calls for one, since primer improves the bond on aged or slightly oxidized pipe far more than cement alone. Label the transition point on the outside of the wall cavity before closing it up, since a mixed-diameter joint is exactly the kind of detail a future repair will need to know about without opening the wall again.
