Product details

Part 765546W is Canplas's plaster guard, a temporary cover that snaps over an inlet valve's mounting plate during the messiest stages of construction. It is white PVC, and its whole job is to protect the rough-in hardware for the short window between framing and finish work.

Between the time a mounting plate goes into the wall and the time the actual inlet valve cover is installed, that opening sits exposed through drywall hanging, taping, mudding, sanding, and painting. Any of those stages can leave dust, joint compound, or overspray inside the mounting plate, and cleaning cured mud or paint out of the threads later is far more work than covering the hole in the first place.

Installers place the guard directly over the mounting plate as soon as it is set in the wall, then leave it in place through the rest of the build. It comes off only when the room is finished and the actual inlet valve and its cover plate are ready to go in, at which point the mounting plate underneath should look as clean as the day it was installed.

This is a generic accessory sized to Canplas's standard construction mounting plates, so it pairs with the rough-in hardware already specified for the job rather than one specific power unit brand. It is inexpensive enough, and the labor it saves is real enough, that most installers order one for every inlet location on a job as a matter of routine rather than deciding case by case.
