Product details
Kirby part 183014 is the full 50-foot power cord for the Avalir upright, terminated and ready to install without any splicing on the buyer's end. Fifty feet reaches most homes from just one or two outlets, a range the Avalir's design leans on heavily, so a failing cord takes away more usable reach on this machine than it would on a shorter-corded upright.
Damage concentrates at the two points that flex hardest: the plug end, worn by being yanked from the wall instead of released by the plug itself, and the machine end, which bends every time the handle changes position during use. Insulation cracks first at those spots, and the symptoms an owner notices are power dropping the moment the cord gets nudged, a plug that feels warm to the touch, or a jacket turned brittle and unwilling to coil neatly the way it did fresh out of the box.
Any of those warning signs, or bare conductor visible through a split in the outer jacket, means the safe move is to retire the cord right away rather than wrap it in tape and keep pushing it. On a machine built to work an entire floor plan from one outlet, a full-length replacement matters more here than it would on a compact upright with a shorter run to begin with.
Coil the new cord loosely around its built-in wrap rather than pulling it taut, since a cord stored under tension develops the same stiffness and cracking a worn-out one shows after years of otherwise careful daily use.
